A Quit Smoking Plan

A Quit Smoking Plan

Doctor, some people say that it helps
them to make a plan, I don’t know how
realistic this is, Marianne, but set a date
do something every day keep yourself
busy and this is what I’ve heard from
many people who I know who have
attempted to stop smoking, do you kind of
go through that step of let’s take this
one day at a time, as opposed to let’s
quit overnight just unrealistic
sometimes.>I do, I mean the the data shows
that quitting cold turkey at some point
is the way to go you’re much less
successful if you tape it down because
obviously you’re being exposed to the
nicotine so it’s driving your
addiction the you know the first part of
the plan is making a decision ‘I am
going to quit’ that’s a commitment to
yourself and to your family and without
that probably nobody’s gonna be
successful and then the second thing is
to set up a plan for when you’re gonna
stop smoking and how are you gonna do it
I think it’s if you can just say
okay on my birthday I’m gonna stop
smoking and you stop smoking like your
uncle it’s easy
most people who smoke now can’t do that
because people who can do that have
already done it so most people
who are smoking now need more help they
need to be in a program they need
behavioral strategies they need
supportive counseling from peers and
counsellors etc and I also think most
people who quit smoking on need some
kind of pharmacology they either need
nicotine replacement or they need
medications because there are very few
people that smoke now because they
actually want to, people are smoking
because they’re addicted to some degree
because they would have quit
most people in this country know that
you should quit most people in this
country know figures about 70% but I
don’t believe that I think most almost
every person with some rare
exceptions knows that it’s bad for you
and they don’t want those things to
happen and they want to quit.
